Blago Gone... Now what?

Blago Blago Blago... you stupid little monkey.

First you decide not to defend yourself, all the while screaming that this was a lynching. Then you piss off your lawyer to the point he leaves your council, under the words ""I never require a client to do what I say, but I do require them to at least listen." And instead of defending yourself in court what do you do? A talk show circuit.

And now? How's it feel to be "Citizen" rod Blagojevich? And voted out unanimously to oust your sorry ass. Oh and it was voted on by people who could not have given 2 farts what you said on The View... or Oprah... or anywhere else you proclaimed your innocence.

I'll give you a hint for your criminal trial, which you still proclaim your innocence in: Get another lawyer, listen to them. Keep off camera. REALLY keep off camera. The people you talk to on it would be the ones deciding your fate. Stop gambling. Burris was a good choice, but so far it's been the only good one you've made.

Inauguration: For posterities sake

These are a bit grainy and given they were taken by my phone that's acceptable. We had a small 'party' as it were since our company filter blocks streams and we had no TVs. The feed cut in and out but in the end, I still watched history.

Funny as it sounds I could tell the mood of the day at sunrise.

It's a dawn of a new day... but there are still clouds on the horizon

MLK - I have a Dream

I find it immensely fitting that MLK day is the day before we swear in the 44th but 1st black president.
What Dr. King started Obama continues. We still have race problems in America. May we prove that we are finally on the right path.

The Bush Legacy

Ok so this post has been brewing in my head since the election. I wanted to wait and make
this as meaningful as possible and not have it be more normal ranting. But I know I will fail and I just deal with it.

I'll be the first to admit I've bashed Bush Jr. more than once. I was bashing him before it came into style. I never voted for him in either election, supported any of his policies or wars.

Let me also say that I have a bit of bias with thinking about a legacy for The Chimp in Charge. I never voted for him. Never like his policy.

So with that uttered I present to you my thoughts on his legacy:
  • He helped Obama to get elected. I'm not saying Obama would not have been elected were it not for Bush, but the force behind him would not have been as loud and strong
  • No Child Left Behind: More like "Lower standards and teach for tests" act. Seriously public school was shit when I was in it, and it's only gotten worse.
  • Housing Market: Yeah, deregulation and lack of oversight works wonders.
  • Social Security: See above, thankfully never passed.
  • Tax Cuts: Would have worked if the money they saved were put into banks/under mattress. With neither, set us up for the bomb recession we have now (yes that is a Zero Wing Reference :P)
  • Faith-Based Initiatives: Separation of Church and State, 'nuff said.
  • Stem Cell Research: The more we find out about what stem cells can do, the more is yanking of the financial chain on this one infuriates me.
  • Global Warming: Kyoto Protocol. Would have been nice to see it work nearly globally. Would have being the operative words.
  • Hurricane Katrina/Rita: Watching the Earth heat up like an oven became so much fun he forgot to look when a hurricane done blowed up Nola good! Heck of a job Brownie (and Bushie for that matter).
  • Habeas Corpus: Body of Law. Basically the ability to yell "Wait a fucking minutes I don't even know why I'm in prison" and be granted and answer.
  • Torture Morality: He has none, apparently.
  • Guantanamo: Death place of liberty, habeas corpus, and showcase of torture morality.
  • Wiretaps: So, not happy with taking supposed terrorist rights away you decide to come in and listen to see how the rest of the nation thinks? Hope you got an ear full, bitch.
  • War On Terror: Watch your methods and motives, lest you become the thing that you hate. 2 bullshit wars later, we have a strained military and a war weary populous. Read the above 3 items to see the results.
  • September 11th: Started the shit that drove much of Bush's domestic and foreign policies, pretty much in that order.
So that's it... that is his Legacy. Yes yes yes I'll get complaints (maybe) for something good I've missed. But.... for what its worth (not much) history will not look kindly on Bush or cohorts in the war on terror. My only hope is that Obama, and his successors will be able to sort out the mess he's left after he has left.

Radio Times: 103.1 and its many deaths

So Indie 103.1 had now died. Sadly I don't really have a tear for it simply because it feels like it is the most contested frequency on the dial. Below is a copy and paste of a post I made elsewhere, and I felt it was fitting to put up here.

Sadly, this isn't the first time 103.1 and closure have been in the same sentence. This has the be the most contested/flopped station on the dial, having been flopped a good number of times in the last 15 years. Going from memory:

MARS FM (Dance/Techno, never knew it existed until Groove was on the air and mentioned it)

CD 103.1 (Adult Contemporary)

Groove Radio (Dance/Techno, possibly the first time I really loved a station format. But it wasn't until KDL that I was into dance/electronic music)

Super Estrella (Spanish Music. Entravision owned KDLE and KDLD at the time)

KDL 103.1 (LOVED the station. Dance/Techno. Rico Banana has yet to be topped in morning radio IMHO. Used both KDLE KDLD sticks/call signs)

Independent Radio (ClearChannel bought KDL, fired staff, set up station to specifically compete with KROQ. They had to ditch/sell when the FCC complained they had too much of a monopoly in Southern California)

Indie 103.1 (What became of the above after ClearChannel left. Listened in a few times, but admittedly never was a fan because of the bad taste ClearChannel left me at the killing of KDL)

And now, like before, 103.1 is a Spanish station. To shorten the drama, I pray to ever god that has ever been worshiped that it stays like that. Miss dance stations, but can't for the life of me want to go through more pain/drama.

[Edit] Something to add to the story at this point: I remember the actual shutoff of KDL and the starting of Independent because I actually held a vigil, staying up until midnight and having a shot of Cuervo in memory of the fine station. Really left me bitter about ClearChannel.

Blagojevich: The Ballsey Gambler

I want you to take a good look at this mug. This is a face of a fucking gambler. A ballsy one at that. So he, in secret, starts trying to sell Obama's senate seat. He gets caught, but still has it within his power to appoint someone to fill the seat. So what does he do?

Yeah, he seats Roland Burris. Wait what? He actually puts in someone who is well qualified for the positing, even when EVERYONE said they would block anything his tossed at them. Well... welcome to the backdown. Yeah, qualified and black (on don't tell me you didn't notices, with the other 99 senators being white) wins even if you are a douchebag. A very ballsy gambler of a douche, but vinegar and water containing nonetheless.

Over 30? You might get this one

At least that what the author of PD thinks. Notice "Sum Ting Wong"?

Ok so ageism aside the needle and arm are backwards. I, at 29, had to look at the comments.

Kids Grow Up So Fast These Days

So let me get this straight. Kid misses bus. Kid wants/needs to get to school (fears missing school, or at least the punishment from it). Kid get in the car.

Break in my logic here: Kid got keys from where and why the parents weren't out yet (could be later in the day jobs I guess *shrug*)

Continuing: Kid gets in car, and drives. Experience? Not a simulator. No, this child learned to drive the best say. Grand Theft Fucking Auto! Oh and Monster Truck Jam, but we're talking a car here not Bigfoot.

Oh, and he didn't' use the safe house either: two 90s, two ditches, and a telephone pole. Then... ya know some kids must like school more than I did... he gets out and keeps walking to school. That, right there, is determination. Also proves he played one of the GTA series before #3. I could never jack cars that well in the game and for the life of me I don't know why.
